New Work: Wish You Were Here

After a very long hiatus, I am finally back with new work. The holiday season is usually more merrymaking and less creative for me, but the last few months of 2012 seemed especially uninspired. So it’s good to be back in the saddle with a shiny new project.

**This post contains nudity. If nudity worries you, stresses you out, confuses and/or enrages you, this is the point at which you will want to hit the back button and visit a different type of blog. There are some excellent websites out there that specialize in images of puppies and kittens.

Wish You Were Here

I’ve always been fond of the multiple meanings of the Pink Floyd song of the same name, so I am lifting it for my own purposes in this work. The juxtaposition of the organic and the broken or industrial (hey look, I can pull the art school jargon out occasionally!) has been rolling around in my head for some time now, coupled with themes with separation, of distance and proximity, of being unbalanced, and of nature at odds with destruction.

In a lot of ways, Wish You Were Here is a continuation of my primary work from last year, Catch. But where Catch was more cyclical (and cynical) in concept about pain and how we will return again to the same circumstances, this is more linear in its approach and specific to points in time.

It will be later in the year before I am able to collect all of the images I want to use, and take longer still for me to stop writing and rewriting (and rewriting some more) the poetry that will go with these images. I actually posted the precursor to this project, Triptych, a few months ago. After some insightful and painful (in a good way!) critique, those images and poems are back in the shop being worked on, and will eventually become, in part, folded into this work.

I will inflict the written word on everyone later. Right now, I have a handful of images that can mostly be considered finished (although I reserve the right to completely change everything about them up until publication).
